Cape Town is a city best understood through its landscapes. Mountain, ocean, architecture and history meet within a remarkably small area, making a private orientation tour the ideal way to begin your stay.

With Yaku Tours, the day is flexible and personal. Rather than following a fixed group itinerary, we explore Cape Town at a comfortable pace and adapt the route to the weather, traffic and your interests.

Table Mountain: the city’s natural landmark

Table Mountain is the defining feature of Cape Town and an unforgettable place to start. When conditions allow, the cableway offers sweeping views across the city, Table Bay and the Cape Peninsula. The mountain also helps visitors understand Cape Town’s geography and how its neighbourhoods fit together.

Because the weather can change quickly, a private tour gives us the freedom to visit at the best possible time or adjust the day if the summit is covered by cloud.

Camps Bay Beach, the Twelve Apostles and Sea Point

From the mountain, we can continue along the Atlantic seaboard to Camps Bay Beach, where the Twelve Apostles rise dramatically behind the sand and ocean. Sea Point Promenade offers another relaxed view of everyday Cape Town, where locals walk, run and enjoy the sea air.

The route can include scenic stops along the coast, allowing time for photographs and conversation without the pressure of a large tour group.

Blouberg Beach and Table Mountain

Blouberg Beach offers one of Cape Town’s most famous views of Table Mountain. A lovely day spent with a couple visiting from the USA at Blouberg Beach, with Table Mountain in the background.

Bo-Kaap: colour, culture and Cape history

A visit to the Bo-Kaap introduces one of Cape Town’s most distinctive historic neighbourhoods. Its brightly coloured houses, cobbled streets and Cape Muslim heritage tell an important part of the city’s story.

Walking through the neighbourhood gives us time to discuss its architecture, community traditions and cultural history while enjoying some of Cape Town’s most memorable street scenes.

Lunch at Hemelhuijs

For lunch, we can stop at Hemelhuijs in central Cape Town—one of my favourite lunch restaurants. Its stylish interior and beautifully presented seasonal food make it a relaxed and memorable stop during the tour.

Lunch is optional and can be adapted to your preferences, dietary requirements and the pace of the day.

The V&A Waterfront and Cape Town’s working harbour

The V&A Waterfront combines Cape Town’s maritime history with shops, restaurants, galleries and a working harbour. Historic buildings stand alongside modern architecture, while Table Mountain provides a dramatic backdrop.

Depending on your interests, we can focus on the harbour, public art, local design, food or the Silo District. The area is also home to Zeitz MOCAA, one of Africa’s most important museums of contemporary art.

A tour designed around you

A private orientation tour is especially useful at the beginning of a Cape Town visit. It helps you become familiar with the city, identify places you may want to revisit and get practical local advice for the rest of your stay.

I’m Jaco van Straten, a licensed Cape Town tour guide and the owner of Yaku Tours. I combine local knowledge with personal attention, comfortable private transport and a genuine interest in Cape Town’s history, culture, nature, art and food.

Your tour takes place in a stylish, air-conditioned vehicle, with safety, comfort and flexibility at the centre of the experience. The itinerary can be completely bespoke, whether you prefer iconic sights, quieter neighbourhoods, architecture, galleries or local cuisine.
