A journey around the Cape Peninsula is famous for its spectacular scenery, but the wildlife encountered along the way can make the day truly memorable. Every tour is different because the animals roam freely in their natural surroundings. On some days we may see an incredible variety of wildlife, while on others the animals remain hidden. Sightings can never be guaranteed, and that sense of possibility is part of the adventure.

Depending on the route, season and a little luck, we may encounter African penguins, Cape fur seals, Chacma baboons, ostriches, bontebok, eland, tortoises and rock hyraxes, known locally as dassies. Dolphins may appear in the coastal waters, and southern right whales can sometimes be seen during whale season. The Peninsula is also home to a wonderful variety of coastal and seabirds.

One of my favourite stops is Kalk Bay Harbour, where Cape fur seals often rest around the fishing boats or swim between the harbour walls. They are curious, playful animals and always a delight to watch. As with all wildlife, however, we admire them from a respectful distance and allow them to behave naturally.

We stopped for lunch at Harbour House, overlooking the ocean and the working harbour. Its seafood platter was a highlight—a generous selection of fresh seafood enjoyed with beautiful views across False Bay.

The most special part of this Peninsula tour was sharing it with my amazing guests from Utah. They were in South Africa working on an upliftment project that builds schools for underprivileged children. Their warmth, enthusiasm and commitment to helping others made the day especially memorable. It was a privilege to introduce them to the landscapes and wildlife of the Cape Peninsula and to learn more about the meaningful work that brought them here.

A private Peninsula tour is about far more than reaching Cape Point. It is about the unexpected moments along the way: a seal appearing beside the harbour wall, penguins waddling between the rocks, baboons crossing the road or dolphins surfacing in the bay. We may see many animals or only a few, but the landscapes, stories and experiences always make the journey worthwhile.

Every Yaku tour is private and completely bespoke, allowing us to follow the day at a relaxed pace and stop when something special catches our attention.
